Bilbo, Gandalf, & Life Change

Bilbo, Gandalf, & Life Change

An angry, defensive, bitter Bilbo; "Why shouldn't I keep it? It's mine, my precious. What business is it of yours what I do with my own things? You want it for yourself!"

Gandalf replies, ”Bilbo Baggins, do not take me as some conjurer of cheap tricks. I am not trying to rob you… I am trying to help you."

Bilbo had spent most of his life holding on to something that was destroying him. At the moment someone loved him enough to tell him the truth… it was hard for him to let go and embrace something better.

Many times in life it is hard to hear the truth. We tend to hide the areas of our life that desperately need to be changed. There is always a good excuse to stay the same.

  • It is just the way I am.
  • Everyone is struggling.
  • I am doing better than everyone else.
  • It is not that big of a deal.
  • I am not perfect.

Nothing changes in our life until the excuses end. We must be willing to face the truth about ourselves if we are going to take steps towards change.

Today, surround yourself with people who will challenge you and tell you the truth. But even more than that, stop lying to yourself about the areas in your life that need to change.

Remember, you only get one shot at today. Start taking the steps toward who you were created to be! That begins with the truth and letting go of the “Precious” things that are destroying you.

Finish Empty!

So inspiring and true. I can’t afford to mess around with the minutes I’ve been given by God.
