Surround yourself with the right people and turn them loose.
The greatest leaders in the world have an ability to get “the right people on the bus and get them in the right seat.” This is the most important and most difficult task in leadership.
However, many leaders they never even attempt this step. They not only believe they can do everything on their own, but also believe that is the only way it will get done right. This pride and arrogance leads to the downfall of many leaders and most never see it coming.
If you want to have the best possible chance at success, you must realize you can’t do it alone. That is not weakness. The strength is found in analyzing where you most need help… and then working hard to fill that void with someone gifted. Give the people you lead clear goals plus accountability and then let them run after it! You can’t play every instrument in the orchestra at the same time you are conducting!
If you are in charge and calling the shots, start day one on a pursuit to surround yourself with the right people. Remember, Leadership is not about making the decisions on your own, it is about owning the decisions once they are made.
